Choeung Ek, also known as the Killing Fields, is a memorial site located near Phnom Penh, where many victims of the Khmer Rouge regime were executed and buried during the Cambodian genocide of the late 1970s. It was one of many execution sites used by the Khmer Rouge to eliminate perceived enemies of the regime, including intellectuals, professionals, ethnic minorities, and political opponents.
