During the Vietnam War, Mỹ Sơn’s remote, forested location made it a strategic base for Viet Cong forces, who used the site to store weapons and coordinate operations along the Ho Chi Minh Trail. In response, U.S. bombing campaigns, particularly by B-52 aircraft, targeted the area, causing extensive damage to the Cham temples. Many structures were destroyed, though some survived and have since undergone restoration. This photo shows the lingering imprint of a B-52 bombing crater.
