Prasat Baksei Chamkrong, Siem Reap, Cambodia 2023
Baksei Chamkrong, completed in the late 10th century, is a Hindu temple that venerates Shiva. Built with bricks and laterite, it has sandstone embellishments and inscriptions that offer praises to earlier Khmer kings. The name Baksei Chamkrong means The Bird Who Shelters Under Its Wings. It comes from a legend where the king tried to flee Angkor during a siege, when a huge bird lands and protects him under its wings.
